Underground MV Cable Installation Best Practices- Campbell Rogers, Condux International
Underground cable is often referred as the backbone of a utilities distribution system. Cable failure can cause disruption in service leaving customers in the dark and causing system wide disturbances. A lot of time failures can be traced back to issues caused by improper cable installation methods.
From installing mule tape with a duct rodder to operating a 12,000lb pulling trailer, this presentation will review the different techniques for installing underground cable properly and safely. Every successful job starts with good planning and preparation. Starting with developing pulling calculations to duct proofing, we will review resources that can be utilized before cable pulling even begins. There are many tools out on the market, so choosing the proper solution for the job can be confusing. During the presentation we will review some of these options and discuss when each should be implemented on a jobsite. In addition to tools, there are installation recommendations available from other industry leaders like lube and cable manufactures. We will take a look at these and discuss how they can be achieved using specialty equipment that is out on the market. Attendees will leave with a greater knowledge of underground cable installation practices that they can directly apply on the jobsite.

When a Ship Misses the Harbor, It’s Rarely the Harbor’s Fault® - Neil Dempster
As the title suggests, there’s a renewed sense of accountability surrounding the actions and behaviors of people within organizations. And nowhere is this more obvious than within industries where everyone is being asked to do more with less, adapt to constant change, increase efficiency (without compromising quality), work better together as a team, and be a continuous learner–all while keeping people safe and incident-free. Sound familiar? If you’re tired of theory-only sessions, this high-energy, fun and content-rich presentation is guaranteed to provide you with the practical, common-sense knowledge to achieve greater results (both individually and within a team environment). During this 'immediately-implementable' presentation, Neil Dempster will share why organizations like NASA use his Course Correction™ and Nothing Succeeds Like Failure™ methods to help them innovate faster than the speed of change. Neil will have you laughing one minute and re-thinking your entire workday the next.
